Matilda Mother bandin keikkabussi oli uusi raitiovaunulinja numero 15, Jaanat tulivat suoraan koulusta ja Kaisu Kurki töistä. Näin ilta alkoi muodostumaan, kun illan miksaaja ja lavavastaava Börje luotsasi ryhmät vuorollaan estradille.

World travellers aimed to Roihuvuori. Observatory: Pow – Spring Extravaganza 18.4.2024 started at 7 pm. Pow- first there was Kaisu Kurki with Ukulele, followed by up and coming Jaanat and Pow – Matilda Mother band and you never know what happens. All three performers are strong improvisers and it happens now – when the spring is just about to bloom…spring extravaganza..the cosmic sounds from space landed from all the possible places…to Roihuvuori.

Kaisu Kurki chatted with audience singing some songs she had collected, familiar to audience from past.
Jaanat played an energetic set, covering material from their latest release to their first song and shared joy of playing shone from their performance.
Even for world traveller it is hard to fix gigs and sometime posting to instagram, tiktok, facebook, youtube, bandcamp, twitter….sound observatory continues and world travellers gigs needs to be arranged.
There was Mörkö-Elsa, Liisa Akimof and Matilda Mother band. Day was very hot and there was lot of people on the old streets of fortress Suomenlinna. Plenty of tourists and some elderly citizens visiting old places, memorizing where the former school was and etc. The show was ticketed, so it is a good direction for business.
Elsa had spoken word performance standing with microphone. She warmed up audience nicely and was funny too, but not too obvious way. After small pause Liisa Akimof started a show with old keyboards and she really kept the audience in hands with small speaks. Most of audience had come to watch her, anyway. She didn´t use acoustic guitar or piano. She performed most her disco style songs, though her 2 songs accompanied without drum machine was maybe best, she really could keep the rhythm going on nicely without machine beat. Very few artists can do that. The audience really liked her and the most of them was women. She is really pro in everything she does, it easy to settle things with her.
Ninel: ”We started with saxophone and piano. Tomi has told me in ferry on the way to Suomenlinna, that I could play two notes, and not anything else. This was the first time he played saxophone in public. It was avantgarde enough, but we had little bit too long cap before next song. He noticed too late, that it would be good notes for Bridges of Hope, but he didn´t find the text quickly enough. I noticed behind from piano, that I should continue the piano riff, but then I stopped it when he started song Think Back.
We still take the risks. Actually the musical effort was good enough. My friend Tiina Hudskowsky suggested, that I should do speaks more and be in front of stage with drums. I have been thinking of adding more speaks. Playing drums and doing backing vocals is quite difficult task, so adding speaks is ambitious aim. There is also another question: I have been thinking that we should go more spiritual direction. ”
It was challenging to find to the venue, because it is really in center of Tampere City and there was several road repair projects. But we got there and started a gig with enthusiasm. There was our first fan from the first performance in tampere 2019 and we got some new fans too. Though getting the music known and getting it heard widely is a slow and heavy project. There is some challenges to be overcome, not musically. We have lot of new material and Tomi Christiansson composes still with strong visions, so we are not like Rolling Stones running the same program from years to years.
This gig was the next day from Tampere and it was challenging to do totally different program. We wanted to record it also. Sometimes it is difficult to set cameras and tape recorder properly. We managed to record it with two different cameras and with one tape recorder, so we got the digital album material mixed too. And with film material we managed to edit final film mixing two film tracks with added comics figures in it. So we can try to sell a performance and maybe use the final film during the performance reflected to the wall. By the way; we got ready T shirts! with Pim & Pom figures.
Saunabaari is close to home so we didn’t need a heavy set. We didn’t know they also had microphones and a PA system. We used piano, percussion and guitar and one vocal microphone. After us, Mikko Rintanen’s duo performed, singing covers and talking with the audience. We had the honor of playing after a well-known musician, in fact we were a warm-up band, although we didn’t know that others had also been arranged.

Come along to the cosmic boogie gig at Hanna community center in Helsinki on 30.8.24 at 1:00 p.m. Get ready to dance under the blue sky with our amazing lineup of drummer girl Ninel and guitar boy Tomi Christiansson. The day was so hot. We had two hours of studio live earlier in the day and we were already sweaty. It’s great that the backline was waiting ready, even though there was no plugin for the keyboards. You never know what you have ready and what you need to bring. We got some nice videos thanks to the lovely soft sunny light at the end of August. The public and the staff liked it and asked us to come again.
We filmed and recorded during 13.9.2024 – 28.9.2024 in New York. The first week was still very warm and sunny and the second wasn’t bad either. We got good material, street views and original first takes, some of them during live stream. We shoot new photos and wrote reviews for google. Several new songs were written and recorded during this two weeks. This time we stayed in lower east side and got better familiar with the area. The songs tells the story of feelings and happenings during this stay near China town, Manhattan.

Sound observatory started its meteoric rise last summer 2024. We were live-streaming with mobile more during outdoor gigs and bushing’s round Helsinki City. First it was something 170 live watchers, the about 300. We were really surprised. But the YouTube really exploaded after New York lives streams. We live streamed the first time in New York on September 2024, mostly from hotel and parks too. We started to get after every live stream few new subscribers. But what happened after that? The amount of live watchers raced up exponentially and 4.10.2024 there was 1700, 13.12.2024 3500 and 20.12.2024 4400 watchers during you tube streams.
Matilda Mother band in studio live recording 29.12.2024. We can´t chat during the performance. Though we need to check now and then, than the stream is going on and the connection is stable. We noticed, that there was lot of comments. When we ended the stream there had been about 8500 watchers and lot of comments. Such as ”the guitar skills are top, but you needed a singer” and ”what are those people behind the window?” ”what is she doing?” ”you need a bass player” ”this is pure rock´n roll” ”Maybe you be famous one day, never give up” was one comment. Very encouraging, though we think, that maybe we end up to be YouTubers? is this the top? Are we too commercial now, should we go more avantgarde direction in the future? More feedback guitar and spoken word.
We usually add the bass tracks at home studio afterwards and sometimes additional instruments as free saxophone, stylophone, keyboards, piano, flute, etc..Tomi Christiansson wants to sing his own songs himself, though he has heard the comments of his angelic sensitive voice all his life. It is estimated in review: even the cuckoo sings with his own voice. We reserve the free studios from variety of libraries nearby. So the studio 29.12.2024 was one of the public Oodi Library studios and the people behind the windows were library visitors. We have decided the we don´t do cover songs. We leave that to those, who don ´t have the ability (capability) or passion to write own original material. We want also sound totally different from others and that doesn´t happen so easily if you are playing cover material. It must be said that we appreciate every comment and love to read them afterwords.
